Smudge Sticks
Smudge sticks hold a rich history in various cultures, notably among Indigenous peoples in North America. Traditionally, they consist of string bound bundles of White Sage, yet other herbs like Lavender, Rosemary, and European Sage are also used.
All herbs in Sage Cottage Smudge Sticks are organically grown in Ashfield, including White Sage. I chose to grow my own White Sage to address the over harvesting concerns of White Sage in its native California.
To use, light one end until it smokes, then blow out the flame. The smouldering embers release fragrant smoke, wafted around to cleanse spaces, objects, or individuals. Setting intentions is crucial, focusing on dispelling negativity and inviting positive energy.
Extinguish by pressing the end into a fireproof container or sand. Each stick lasts multiple ceremonies and is best stored in an airtight container when not in use.
European Sage Smudge Sticks
Organically home grown and hand harvested and bound smudge sticks. This variety of Sage originates in Europe, and its use dates back to the middle ages. If you follow the European Witchcraft traditions, you’d be more likely to use European Sage, rather than White Sage which originates from North America. Suitable for any smudging ritual, whether it be to cleanse, heal, protect or help with meditation. These are available for $10 each.
White Sage Smudge Sticks - SOLD OUT
This variety of Sage is from North America and has become the go to Smudge stick for modern witchcraft. I have been able to successfully grow a couple of plants, even though they are used to a more arid climate than what Sydney experiences. It is interesting to note, however, that the benefits of both Garden Sage and White Sage are the same. Suitable for any smudging ritual, whether it be to cleanse, heal, protect or help with meditation. As with my other Sage plants, these have also been grown organically, without the use of pesticides. These are available for $15 each.
Rosemary Smudge Sticks
Organically home grown, hand harvested and bound smudge sticks. An interesting
tidbit, as of 2019, Rosemary is included as part of the Sage family. Not surprising given their fabulous use as a smudge stick to remove negative energy from a space. These are available for $10 each.
Lavender Smudge Sticks
Organically home grown, hand harvested and bound smudge sticks. Using Lavender to smudge will help calm the mind and clear negativity from a space, and can help with restful sleep. There is a limited quantity of these and they are available for $10 each.
Lavender & Rosemary Smudge Sticks
Organically home grown, hand harvested and bound smudge sticks. Combining Lavender and Rosemary in a smudge stick helps enhance the properties of each - including clearing an area of negative energy and promoting a peaceful and calm environment. There is a limited quantity of these and they are available for $12 each.
Rosemary, Lavender & White Sage Smudge Sticks
These smudge sticks are also organically home grown, hand harvested and bound. The desire to blend these three herbs was inspired out of a need to create more smudge sticks from what our garden could provide. As such, this stock is extremely limited, but I'm hopeful our garden will gift us more of these herbs for harvesting, as this trio is quite a gorgeous blend. Having the 3 together will make short shrift of negative energies and will help calm frazzled nerves. These are available at $15 each​
